THE PROFESSIONAL HOUSING REHABILITATION ASSOCIATION of
NORTH CAROLINA
PHRANC members have the opportunity every year to compete for the honor of being designated a Certified Rehabilitation Specialist, or even a Master Rehabilitation Specialist. Either designation comes with a framed certificate and the recognition by this association that you are among the best in the business. That's why many PHRANC members work years to successfully complete the exam, which measures your accumulated knowledge of 10 subject modules: (1) Codes and Standards, (2) Property Inspections, (3) Work Write-ups, (4) Cost Estimating, (5) Project Management, (6) Plumbing, (7) Heating and Air Conditioning, (8) Electrical, (9) Hazmat Mitigation, and (10) Building Structure & Science. Candidates for certification may take the entire 10-module exam or retest on remaining modules. TRACK 1 Day 1: |
1:00-5:00 PM - Inspection, Work Write Up, and Cost Estimating Presenters: Brian Ashburn and Drew Corbett This course will demonstrate how various components of a home interact to affect the home's overall performance. By learning about the relationships between the building envelope, heating, A/C, insulation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, and appliances, learners will understand how these systems work together to affect the comfort, health, and safety of occupants and the durability of the home. |
TRACK 2 Day 1: |
1:00-5:00 PM - Building Science Fundamentals Presenter - Kevin Scott Piedmont Triad Regional Council of Government This course will demonstrate how various components of a home interact to affect the home's overall performance. TRACK 1 Day 2: |
8:00 AM -5:00 PM - Inspection, Work Write Up, and Cost Estimating Presenters: Brian Ashburn and Drew Corbett The segment for today's training will be held in the classroom going over deficiencies found from the onsite investigation of the house. We will be creating a scope of work from the inspection and then creating a cost estimation of the work that needs to be done. |
TRACK 2 Day 2: |
8:00 AM -3:00 PM - Vinyl Siding Installer Certification Course Presenter - Rob Balfanz, Polymeric Exterior Products Association formerly known as Vinyl Siding Institute This is a certification course for vinyl siding installers who have at least one year of experience with installation of siding materials. A certificate of achievement will be given to those who attend the class and do not have at least one year experience in siding installation. This training will give attendees the knowledge on how to correctly install vinyl siding and learn the tools of the trade. |
3:15 PM - 5:00 PM - Estimating Equations Presenter: Daniel Jordan Piedmont Triad Council of Government This will be an interactive training that will go over all of the equations needed to determine the quantities of various materials needed for a housing rehabilitation project. Math equations needed to determine roofing, flooring, siding, etc. will be discussed and used. How to determine the waste factor for all materials needed and material stock lengths will also be discussed. |
TRACK 3 Day 2: |
8:00 AM-12:00 AM ASHRAE Ventilation Calculations and Implementation Presenter Kevin Scott PTRC This training will help you determine the correct ventilation amounts for optimal indoor air quality on a home based on several factors. Once the ventilation calculation is determined the Presenter will then discuss best implementation practices to achieve the desired results. |
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Installation Methods for EPDM rubber roofing Presenters: Hank Bonney and Quinton Muldrom Mule-Hide Products Co., Inc. will start with a PowerPoint Presentation covering Mule-Hide EPDM & EPDM Accessories to give all attendees a solid foundation of product knowledge and application prior to advancing into our Hand-On portion of the training. In the Hands-On Portion of the class, those attending this training will view how all the products combined evolve into a watertight roofing assembly. |

10:15 AM- 12:00 PM - Hands-on EPDM Installation Training Presenters: Hank Bonney and Quintin Muldrow This will be a hands-on learning experience to show proper installation techniques for Mule-Hide EPDM rubber roofing. Come learn from the professionals. |
